Classes Offered

I offer classes in a variety of methodologies. I teach Voice and the International Phonetic Alphabet. If you are interested please email me from the contact page. Include your information and what type of class you are interested in. Once there is enough interest I will email participants to find a time that works for everyone.

Fitzmaurice I

This class focuses mostly on Deconstructing exercises with a little Restructuring toward the end. This will continue into the second class. Fitzmaurice Voicework® was developed by Catherine Fitzmaurice and combines modified yoga, shiatsu, Reichian bodywork and other techniques that vigorously activate deep breathing and relaxation. This allows text to flow viscerally from your inner core. All you need to bring to the class is a couple of pieces of text (monologues) and a water bottle as it is a workout, both vocally and physically.

Offered: Classes are offered once a week for 1 ½ hour for 8 weeks – $200

Fitzmaurice II

This is a continuation of the first class focusing on Restructuring with deeper release exercises. Restructuring focuses solely on managing breathing for speaking and singing. Again, intense individual work. Water bottle and text pieces (monologues) are all you need.

Offered: Classes are offered once a week for 1 ½ hour for 8 weeks – $200

Linklater Progression I

This class focuses on the first half of the progression. We will spend a great deal of time on alignment, breath, touch of sound, vibrations, amplification (lips, spine, skull) and the channel for sound (jaw, tongue, soft palate). We explore words and sentences at their basest levels before moving to text. We work on freeing unnecessary tension from the breathing and speaking musculature. Needed for this class: a piece of text (monologue).

Offered: Classes are offered once a week for 1 ½ hour for 8 weeks – $200

Linklater Progression II

The second part of the progression focuses on resonation within yourself and the space you are in. While warming up using exercises from the first class we will slowly move into the warming up of the resonators; chest, mouth, teeth, (breath capacity), sinuses, nasal bone and skull. Once we put the progressions together we then work on Range and Articulation. Needed for this class: texts (monologues).

Offered: Classes are offered once a week for 1 ½ hour for 8 weeks – $200

The Joy of Phonetics I

This is a beginning level course focusing on the American sounds of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). We explore sounds and how the voice is connected to the mind/body impulse. By the end of the course we will be applying that focus to one or two accents, depending on time. It is a great way to learn and execute dialects on your own, enabling you to self-prepare for auditions. I use Louis Colaianni’s phonetic pillow approach to teaching the sounds. It is a visceral, tactile approach that makes learning the sound easy. Really easy. Promise.

Offered: Classes are offered once a week for 1 ½ hour for 8 weeks – $200

The Joy of Phonetics II

This is an extension of the first course where we learn additional sounds and do nothing but work on different dialects.

Offered: Classes are offered once a week for 1 ½ hour for 8 weeks – $200
